‘Strangeness’ at Dior Couture Fall 2011

July 4, 2011 in Fashion Illustration, PvdH Fashion Show Reviews

As the show was happening NYT’s Cathy Horyn tweeted away “… Dior. Lot’s of strangeness here, folks.” And I am not surprised given the lack of direction in the collection and the slightly hmm… How shall we put it? Singular? Eccentric? Plainly odd hats (designed by none other than Stephen Jones). While by the end of the collection the Pierrot reference became crystal clear following the copious amounts of pastels (I mean, how much clearer can you get than Karlie Kloss closing the show in the ensemble depicted above), there clearly lacked a firm hand to hold together the collection and give it a true focus point. It seems that for the time being Bill Gaytten (recently appointed artistic director at John Galliano) may not be the man for the job. Or is it that the ghost of Galliano is still lingering in the ateliers?
