(Self) Portrait
July 15, 2012 in PvdH's #todayimwearing

(Self) Portrait. Us bloggers may be well-known for self-portraits, commonly referred in the blogosphere as GPOYs (Gratuitous Picture Of Yourself). But let me tell you how during the past few months I have begun a more serious affair with photography.
Yeah yeah, so I may have bought my more ‘serious’ cameras last year (a Leica and a Nikon SLR), but it wasn’t until my move to Mexico that I have really begun to experiment with the more ‘serious stuff’. You know, the little things called aperture, exposure, ISO… Once upon a time I used to simply just ‘tune-out’ at the mere mention of such things (when dropped casually into a conversation by a photographer-friend).
The irony? That throughout my life I have spent countless hours in labour-intensive artistic work (drawing, painting, sewing…heck, even sculpting). But my perpetual excuse to avoid photography was that “I didn’t have the patience for it”.
So I suppose it is just one more thing which the blog (and the oh-so-visual world I entered as a result of it) has led me to. I have had the pleasure of discovering one more artistic branch I now love, and hopefully the photographs in The PvdH Journal will continue to improve as I learn more with time.
#OutfitPreview (the rest tomorrow).
It’s a very nice portrait. I really love this black and white photo.

Good luck on this journey into photography…I think you of all people will love it because it’s just another extension of your creativity…and it’s an unspoken way to share your thoughts with the world.
XOXO
You are absolutely stunning!!!!!!! Photography is amazing, I almost went to university for it. I’m a 35mm girl myself
— a good tip is to carry around a notebook with you. Take shots and right down the settings you used for each, experiment and you’ll get better!
Thanks for the tip! That’s a great idea
Very pretty… and i admire your creativity..

Welcome to the world of photography
I am also on my journey learning how to photograph and how to get the photographic eye because it is something that you can learn too (some photographer friend told me that^^). I’ll be curious to know what will you do with your cameras ! You really are the queen of multitasking !

Paola this is so stunning! What a breathtaking photograph, you look out of this era. I also have noticed a huge difference in you photographs since you moved to Mexico, much more artistic and in a way more you.

Ahhh i know the feeling, I’m currently ‘trying’ to research Canon SLR’s for my upgrade and it’s seriously no easy feat! Can’t even begin to imagine how long it will take to get the swing of things. Love your selfie, it’s so soft and muted, kind of ethereal and old world. Can’t wait to see you delve into this new creativity platform Paola!
Have a lovely day!

It is crazy how technical photography is isn’t it?! (although I suppose sewing and drawing are as well in their own way)
The move to Mexico threw me into the deep end as I have had to take the photos myself with a tripod (and with the help of my lovely mom!).
Thanks for the good luck wishes! X
Lovely! Oh, I still haven’t learned how to properly use my Nikon SLR. I hope I will during my holiday.
You have talent ! Keep shooting ! XX Luba
What a beautiful portrait this is, Paola!
Photography is indeed exciting (I am biased, just a bit!!).
It allows you to see things you would not normally see, were you not looking through your lens.
Enjoy every moment!
xo.
I love the volume your hair has, esta foto tienes que enmarcarla!

Last year I even tried to convince Mr. NJAPD to take photography classes (as a Christmas present in disguise…) because a beautiful picture is not just work of art and intuition, but you have to learn so many things! Paola, your portraits are every day more beautiful and I wish we lived in the same city to learn from you…
great thing… i think you’ll have the that it takes!
very nice self portrait.
