Black Orchid
September 21, 2012 in Beauty

Black Orchid. This post ought to be titled (Tom Ford’s) Black Orchid meets (MAC Cosmetics’) Azealia Bank’s limited edition lipstick (in Yung Rapunxel). But that was simply just impossibly long.
But this brought me to ponder if I was overcomplicating the situation somewhat.
You see, both lipsticks fall rather perfectly into this fall’s vampy trend (and Black Orchid has been my staple night lipstick since last winter). But since my purchase of Azealia Bank’s “deep plum” (as described), I cannot help but think that these two lipsticks were meant to be (worn together). You know, as in lipstick soul-mates.
I like to think that Yung Rapunxel adds a certain ‘brightness’ which Black Orchid lacks. But you simply just cannot beat the consistency of Mr. Ford’s genius.
So here I was, all excited about my (incredible!)(and totally original!)(and super smart!) discovery, when I thought to ask the parental unit (aka my beloved mom) if she could tell the difference.
“Not really…” she said after some deliberation.
So there we go, my vampy lipstick marriage is one of those things that (while it might not be too obvious to the naked eye) makes a difference simply just because I know about it.
p.s. amidst the ramble did you notice that my Black Roses drawing is printed on the t? Cool no?
wearing: Tom Ford lipstick in Black Orchid, MAC Cosmetics Azealia Bank’s (limited edition) lipstick in Yung Rapunxel, PvdH t-shirt (thats my drawing on the t!), Hermes belt, vintage denim

SO WOW
I think the colour is just stunnung…love it’s deep colour
xx
I actually began mixing my lipsticks earlier this year after I bought a palette at Sephora which encouraged you to! I am also not sure if people can tell, but it is definitely more fun to customize them!
I heard about these Sephora palettes and they seem quite a lot of fun!
I love this so so much! I just looked online to see for the MAC lipstick but I see its sold out, where did you get it? unfortunately the Tom Ford is out of my price range…
Thanks!
I just checked for you online and it does seem to be sold out, but I popped into a MAC store last week in NYC and they still had a lot? Might be worth a trip!
I wish I could pull off that shade.. I just dont think I dare too! Does it stay put for long?
I wouldn’t have dared to a few years ago either! But as long as you keep the eye makeup to a minimum (I prefer nothing!) I love it.
It does actually stay put quite long (and when in doubt add some lip liner!)
wonderful pictures, dear. i’m in love with the first one.

Paola your story reminded me of when I go to the makeup counters and the assistants try stuff only on one side and then ask me if I can tell the huuuge difference. I always nod politely, but it is generally a no. So perhaps I simply just have no artistic eye!
Whether two lipsticks or one, this vampy combo looks fantastic on you!
Have a great weekend!
And a beautiful marriage it is!
Love the two together, and they look beautiful on you.
These photographs are absolutely amazing too.
Love your style.
Wishing you a beautiful weekend!
xo.
I really like the white one white with that orchid lippie, it looks gorgeous. I’d probably be like your mum, I find it often hard to tell the difference between two subtle changes in colour

That shade of lipstick looks absolutely beautiful on you! And what a pretty tee babe!
Mm, yes, I can see where lied the conflict in title. Some skin tones don’t work with that vampish (as you said) shade of purple, but on you it’s absolutely rich! Dressed down with effortless class.
The shade looks so perfect with your colouring. It’s a very difficult one to pull off. How cute is your mum and honest! I really love your new concept with the blog and the direction your moving in. Really enjoyable reads and images.

This is such a beautiful lip colour!! I’m secretly an Azealia Banks fan, so I’m definitely going to check out Yung Rapunxel now :>
First of all, welcome back! Looking forward to your new projects, and love this lipstick! On me it would look a bit strange, but you wear these vampy colours so well. I like that you brought the morbid roses back to life on a tee! Btw, could you make me a pair of slouchy leather pants as well?
xx
I remember you being a fan of my black roses drawing! Glad you liked the result.
I love the color! And you’re wearing it beautifully. That print on your tshirt is lovely, I’d buy that in a heartbeat! Hope you had a great weekend!
Much love,
