(simple) blue
September 27, 2012 in PvdH Designs, PvdH's #todayimwearing
(simple) blue. Despite my recent (and by recent I mean since last spring) frenzy over pencil skirts, for daily (comfortable) style I generally tend to gravitate towards loser shapes. In fact, the loser the better (at times).
And so I began thinking about daily comfort. A train of thought which was only magnified after reading a quote on instagram which stated:
“Fashion is always uncomfortable… if u feel comfortable u NEVER get the look!!!!”
While I like to think that the message trying to be conveyed was more in the line of “you should never be too comfortable with your fashion choices” (aka always take fashion risks), it still got me thinking that for me comfort (and ease) in clothes is just as important as fashion.
In my case this means wearing shoes with elongating properties (you know, the magical pointy heels!), going for a size M or L rather than S in t-shirts and sweaters (or hitting the men’s section altogether), never wearing uncomfortable shoes (or shoes I cannot walk in), avoiding wearing yellow on top (which tends to give a hepatitis tint with my colouring)… Alas, the list goes on.
But the more I look as of late, the more complicated the ‘looks’ seem to be getting. Take ‘streetstyle’, which has taken a liking for the dramatic in the past seasons (a fact already well documented and discussed this fashion month).
All this does is make me crave for a certain level of ‘simplicity’. But by simple, I in no way mean boring.

beautiful! i love the classic navy blue skirt!

Oh wow the first shot is just stunning!!! And the trousers- ultra chic.
I also definitely agree with you on that comfort when dressing is super important- it shows otherwise.
Oh, I DO know what you mean here. Just the other day I found a fantastic pair of J-Brand jeans. Super skinny, looked amazing on, could dress up or down, but just felt uncomfortable. As I slipped back into an old pair of my Gap boyfriend jeans, I knew my entire body was thanking me!
Oh Paola!! The first photograph is just so gorgeous! And the second! Love the simplicity of the trousers with those electric Louboutins.
I definitely know what you mean on comfort. For me it is a lot with shoes as well, also because I am not very good at walking in heels. I love the heels with platforms (like your Celine’s!) but I simply just could never walk in them- and I do find it slightly embarrassing to see girls stumbling down the street in heels..
i love this look. despite it being simple and classic it is also super sexy. goes to show that one doesn’t have to show much skin to be sensual.
I like comfort and ease of clothing, You do it very well here, I love this look! xx/Madison

This photo shoot is breathtakingly beautiful…
These photos are beautiful, I love that bright blue wall for a backdrop, almost matching those amazing Louboutins! I agree, this outfit is simple & comfortable but in no way boring, those silk trousers make it feel so luxe. I think it’s one of those things, I too feel the older I get the more inclined I am towards more simple clothing, choosing clothes more for comfort instead of fashion. Of course fashion & my ‘look’ still plays a massive part in what I choose to wear, but now I’m all for practicality too – no more falling over in uncomfortable shoes just because they look nice!
These photos are stunning Paola! Who does your photography? I can’t believe those ‘pyjama’ trousers are DIY – they look store bought and so comfortable, sexy and ‘easy’ to wear!

You look gorgeous against that blue wall! I love your outfit and totally appreciate its simplicity. I tend to gravitate towards simple outfits rather than ones with lots of contrasting elements or layers.

Brilliant post! Simplicity is pure perfection. Comfortable, chic that meshes with personality in my opinion if far better than the alternative of trying to be dramatic and in fashion. You look absolutely perfect! Gorgeous outfit and I’m really loving your new blog approach. Have a great weekend.
